Distributed systems for ubiquitous Web access

A variety of new consumer devices with diverse computing powers, display capabilities, and wired/wireless connections is rapidly gaining access to the Internet. Tailoring Web content to match the device characteristics requires functionalities for content adaptation, which are typically carried out by the content Web server or by some edge nodes.

A completely new dimension of the problem arises when sophisticated adaptation services are to be delivered. In particular, personalization services require the management of user profiles possibly containing sensitive information. Hence the system has to address security issues to provide adequate data privacy.

We investigate several distributed systems of cooperative servers which collaborate in discovering, adapting, and delivering multi-version content.
